Our Executive Team

“The NRU’s mission is promote mental and physical wellness through restorative practices. Restorative Circles as a conduit for communal catharsis, Restorative Yoga to support mental and emotioanl stability and Mad Hot Movement to develop and strengthen team dynamics. This is the core of our vision; a new type of institution that supports the most important human systems.”

Anthony Heyward is a professor, community organizer, and Founder of the National Restorative Union (NRU). His work centers on building human connection through reflective practice, restorative dialogue, and transformative leadership development for teens and adults. As Founder and Executive Director of the NRU, Anthony and his team have developed and led restorative circle communities, mindfulness movement programs, mentorship initiatives, and leadership development experiences across the country. Their work creates spaces where accountability and compassion coexist, where structure supports love, and where individuals are empowered to grow with resilience and intention. Anthony’s approach invites groups to reconnect with one another and pursue innovative solutions to community challenges rooted in trust and shared purpose. Through restorative practices, he helps communities strengthen relationships, cultivate emotional literacy, and build pathways toward sustainable growth.

Rodney Eric Lopez

Empowering Communities Through Social Dance

Rodney Lopez, a founding Board member of the NRU, was featured in the Oscar nominated film, Mad Hot Ballroom. For over 2 decades Rodney has been strengthening community connections through the power of dance.  This experience of connectedness builds a foundation for more critical conversations.
